Thousands of students of the country are now in uncertainty regarding the first-year honours admission at Dhaka University (DU) due to indifference and arbitrary decision of the authorities concerned.
The uncertainty has emerged because of not withdrawing the conditions on admission of madrasah-background students into seven departments.
The standoff in admission process has left about 70,000 admission-seekers of Social Science and Arts faculties of DU faced with a nine-month session jam even before the admission.
When talked to the vice-chancellor and the pro vice-chancellor of the university Saturday, both of them tactfully evaded the issue giving no specific answer.
The university authority has not even included the issue in the agenda of today's (Sunday) meeting of the DU Academic Council.
However, Arts Faculty Dean Sadrul Amin said the issue might be discussed, if any teacher presents it in the meeting, though the meeting agenda do not include it.
The High Court issued a stay order on the admission process of 'kha' and 'gha' units until February 10 next year, declaring the conditions imposed on admission of madrasah students illegal, following a writ petition by five madrasah students on October 26.
Meanwhile, Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) election n-z-2009 will be held at the DU Teachers' Club on December 31.
At least 30 teachers having affiliation with BNP-Jamaat and Awami League, respectively under the White panel and the Blue panel are vying for 15 posts of the DUTA Executive Committee.
A total of 1,370 teachers of the university will cast their votes in the election.
Former Dean of Business Studies Faculty Serajul Islam and Physics Department teacher Obidul Islam are contesting for the posts of the president and the general secretary on behalf of the White panel.
On the other hand, International Business Department teacher Khandaker Bazlul Huq and Microbiology Department teacher Anwar Hossain are contesting for the aforesaid two posts on behalf of the Blue panel.
