The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have initiated measures to revive the activities of its senate, the apex policy-formulating body of the university.
All the vacant seats of senate will be filled through election of representatives of teachers and registered graduates before the upcoming budget session of the university in June.
Nomination of other unfilled posts will also be accomplished at the earliest to keep the 104-member council effective, DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique told the FE Saturday.
As part of revival of the senate, the election of the representatives of registered graduates will be held at 39 centres outside Dhaka on May 23 and 30 along with two centres at DU on June 7, the DU VC said.
The process to fill up three vacant posts nominated by the university chancellor and five seats nominated by the speaker of the parliament is also underway, he added.
The last election of the registered graduates of the senate was held in 2003, tenure of which expired in 2006.
Some 26,077 registered graduates of DU will cast their votes in the election to elect 25 representatives. The election results will be made public on June 9. An ad-hoc body was maintaining the senate and holding budget sessions during the past two years.
