DU professor suspended over sexual harassment

Dr Ershad Halim, a professor of Dhaka University's Chemistry Department, has been suspended from all academic and administrative duties over allegations of sexual harassment made by several of his male students. A probe committee has also been formed to investigate the matter.
A press release issued by the university's Public Relations Office on Monday confirmed the development.
The release stated, "The university administration will provide full support to complete the trial process of the arrested teacher as soon as possible. The administration has already assisted in his arrest and suspended him from all academic and administrative activities."
It further mentioned that the probe committee has already submitted its report to the authorities.
After consulting with legal experts, the administration forwarded the case to the Sexual Harassment Cell for a more thorough investigation. The cell will submit the necessary recommendations after completing its inquiry, which will then be placed before the Syndicate for final approval.
