Thursday, 13 August 2015

The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) have relaxed the required qualification of students for taking part in the admission test for first year honours courses for the academic year 2015-2016. The authorities came up with the decision from a general meeting, chaired by DU vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, of admission test committee on Wednesday considering the HSC results of this year. The matter was disclosed in a news statement about the date of admission in the afternoon. It said the students need to have GPA 8 for applying in the disciplines under science faculty while 7.5 for applying in the disciplines under commerce faculty and 7 for applying in the disciplines under arts faculty. The GPA will be counted including the points of optional (fourth) paper. In response to a question, Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique said they considered the HSC results of this year and decided to relax the qualification for students for taking part in the admission test. He also hinted that the system of adding the marks of optional paper may continue in future. This is the first time the DU authority relaxed the qualification after the adoption of grading system at HSC level in 2003, according to a news agency.
