DU teacher \\\'quits\\\' over sexual harassment of female student

A Dhaka University (DU) teacher has reportedly quit over the allegation of sexual harassment of a female student. DU sources said the teacher in question resigned today in the face of agitation staged on the campus against him in the morning after allegations made by one of the students of his department against him came to the light. At one stage, when the information came out, the agitating students of the Department of Drama of DU, confined Dr Saiful Islam, the Chairman of the Department, in a room on Monday morning, agitating students and campus sources said. The agitating students said Dr Saiful Islam used to sexually harass a fourth year (honours) student at his residence. ‘The fourth year student who made the allegation againstthe teacher, said he used to physically abuse her at his residence with the promise of giving good marks,’ the students of the department alleged. Meanwhile, DU Proctor M Amjad Ali said they came to know about the incidents after receiving the allegation against the teacher. Steps will be taken after consultation with the vice chancellor, he added, according to a news agency.
