DU teachers denied access to AL chief's residence

Sunday, 15 July 2007

Some 50 Dhaka University (DU) teachers, including former Vice-Chancellor AK Azad Chowdhury, were prevented by the police from meeting Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina at her residence in the city Saturday, reports UNB.
Azad later told journalists that the police halted them at the entrance of Sudha Sadan saying high officials do not want to let them enter her house.
"We waited there for about an hour and then returned…," he said.
The former DU vice-chancellor said, "We didn't go there to do politics, we just wanted to congratulate the AL chief as her daughter has been blessed with another child. But police didn't allow us to enter her house."
