Dhaka University authorities are planning to introduce three more departments in a bid to create well-trained and skilled manpower in the country in printing, public health and engineering sectors, reports UNB.
DU VC Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique disclosed this during an interview with the news agency at his official residence on Thursday night.
The three new departments are Electronic Engineering and Mechatronics, Printing and Publication Studies and Public Health.
Replying to a question what are the criteria for opening new departments at the university, Prof Arefin said, "We consider the subjects that have good demand but we don't have those."
Describing the necessity of introducing the three new disciplines, the VC said, "Now there's a large number of printing presses in the country but those lack trained manpower, hampering balanced growth of the industry."
Mentioning that printing technology and scholarly activities are link to each other, the VC said, "We're not getting standard books as printing and editing quality is not good here for lack of skilled manpower. That's why, we've decided to introduce Printing and Publication Studies department at our university."
