DU website still down, authorities claim \\\'hacker\\\' marked

The Dhaka University has failed to restore their website even a day after it was taken over by hackers. Police are yet to make any arrests in the case filed over the offence. It was taken down by hackers going by the name of Cyber 71 on Thursday apparently for not being vocal about the VAT imposed on tuition fees at private universities. The notice posted by the hackers on Thursday was replaced by a ‘website under maintenance mode’ notice on Friday night. The public university’s webmaster Moshtaque Ahmed said they hoped to restore the site by Saturday. He added the hackers had only replaced the landing page of the website with their notice. The rest of the site was left untouched. The university filed a case over the hacking on Thursday night and police’s Detective Branch will be put on it on Saturday. Shahbagh police OC Abu Bakar Siddique said: “Those who have hacked the Dhaka University site have been marked. Attempts to arrest them are underway.”
When contacted, DU acting proctor Amjad Ali also confirmed that the hacker has been identified. “But the arrest could not be made as we are yet to find his address.” Ali refused to reveal the hacker’s name fearing it could hamper the police probe. However, the name of one of Cyber 71 admins has been circulating on Facebook as the hacker. “The hacker has posted three notices on the website since it was taken down. He also posted screenshots on Facebook. Our students informed us after seeing those,” according to bdnews24.com.
