DU White Panel seeks ban on Blue Panel over support for fascist regime

The White Panel, the BNP-backed teachers' association at the University of Dhaka (DU), has submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellor demanding a ban on the activities of the pro-Awami League (AL) Blue Panel and disciplinary measures against its members.
The memorandum was presented to DU Vice-Chancellor Prof D ABM Obaidul Islam at the university's Professor Abdul Matin Virtual Classroom on Monday evening.
In the memorandum, the White Panel accused Blue Panel teachers of opposing the student-led July Mass Uprising, supporting what it described as an authoritarian regime, and participating in the persecution of students and dissenting faculty members over the past 17 years.
According to the document, Blue Panel teachers held a press conference on August 1, 2024, in which they described the protesting students as 'tools of a conspiracy orchestrated by anti-state elements' and urged them to withdraw from the movement.
The memorandum also alleged that Blue Panel members threatened to file sedition cases against White Panel teachers who had publicly opposed the then government.
It further claimed that during a rally and human chain organised by the Blue Panel on August 3, 2024, participating students were indirectly held responsible for acts of sabotage.
The White Panel also alleged that the university administration ordered students to vacate residential halls on July 17, 2024, following the closure of the university, without ensuring their safety.
