DUAA awards for seven martyred intellectuals

Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) on Saturday awarded seven martyred intellectuals for their significant contribution during the Liberation War, reports UNB.
Prime minister's energy adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury handed over the gold medals to the family members of seven intellectuals in a simple ceremony at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU).
The awarded martyred intellectuals are - Prof Dr Govinda Chandra Dev (G C Dev), Prof Jyotirmoy Guhathakurta, Prof Abu Naser M Manirujjaman, Prof Munier Chowdhury, Prof Mofazzal Haider Chowdhury, Prof Anwar Pasha and Prof S M A Rashidul Hassan.
Remembering the memory of the martyred, Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said, "They sacrificed their lives for our independence. If they wish, they could leave the country for protecting themselves. But they didn't, they raised their voice against Pakistani repression."
"These teachers are our national heroes. Pakistan occupation army was sure about their defeat. That's why they committed the cold-blooded mass murders aiming to annihilate the country's intelligentsia and cripple the emerging Bangladesh intellectually," he said.
"DUAA has not only contributed to the infrastructural development of the university, but also enriched the knowledge base of the institution."
DUAA President AK Azad presided over the programme while DU Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, former Vice chancellor SMA Fayez and A K Azad Chowdhury, among others, were present.
