Dubai visa problem must be addressed immediately
Sunday, 2 March 2014
It is bad news for us that Dubai has stopped issuing visa for the Bangladeshis. Every year, we receive a huge amount of remittances from Dubai. As the UAE does not impose tax on individuals' personal income, the country is an attractive destination for foreign workers. Dubai has also been rated as one of the best places to live in the Middle East.
There are over 600,000 Bangladeshis in the UAE and a significant number of Bangladeshis live in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. As Dubai is not issuing visa for the Bangladeshis and those, who have been living and working there, are spending time in anxiety. Many of them will not be able to extend their visas when it comes to end. One of my former colleagues is now working in Dubai and he is very worried as his visa will expire soon. He has gone to Dubai two years ago and has joined a lucrative job there.
Now, everything seems uncertain to him. The Government of Bangladesh must talk with the UAE authorities and if there is any problem, we must address it immediately. It is a great failure in Bangladesh diplomacy that the important issues have not been addressed properly. Prompt steps should be taken by Bangladesh so that visa problem of Dubai will be solved soon.
