The Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) has launched a new health initiative of arranging regular medical camps on the campus. As part of the effort, one medical camp will be held every month. The first camp was organised at Jagannath Hall and Shamsunnahar Hall on Thursday.
The daylong camp, running from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, provided students with free consultations from specialist doctors in medicine, gynecology, and dermatology. According to doctors' prescriptions, students also received certain medicines free of cost. The programme was organised with support from Ibn Sina Trust.
DUCSU announced that only the valid DU ID card-holders are eligible for the service. To make healthcare more accessible to the students, the union has planned to continue this monthly camp on a regular basis.
Speaking about the initiative, DUCSU Health and Environment Secretary M M Al Minhaj said, "We have launched the medical camp series to safeguard health of the DU students. The camp will be held every month, so that the students can easily get access to services of specialist doctors and essential medicines. We hope this initiative will become an effective health service platform for the students."
DUCSU Vice President (VP) Shadik Kayem also highlighted the importance of the initiative, saying, "We are giving top priority to the students' health and safety. Alongside studies, physical well-being is equally important during university life. That's why DUCSU has taken this step of arranging medical camps regularly. Every month, the students will get easy access to doctors and get necessary medicines. Such activities will continue for overall welfare of the students."
