Due honour must be given to the valiant freedom fighters: speakers

RAJSHAHI, Sept 19 (BSS): Speakers unequivocally said that the valiant freedom fighters must be given due honour and respect, as they are the best sons of the soil.
Referring to their heroic contribution to the nation's war of liberation as well as its independence, they said all should have moral obligation and duties to respect them spontaneously.
They said this while addressing the commemoration meeting and iftar mahfil organised by '71-Er Muktijoddha Sathi and Bandhura' marking the first death anniversary of Freedom Fighter Masudul Haque Dulu at Safawang Community Centre Friday.
The speakers said many of the freedom fighters including the disable ones are still passing their days in poverty and hunger along with multifarious sufferings as they were always deprived of their due rights and called for an urgent effective step to rehabilitate them.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton attended the meeting as the chief guest.
Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, was present in the meeting as the special guests while former Mayor Advocate Abdul Hadi was the chair.
Illustrating the life and works of Masudul Haque Dulu, Mayor Liton said, the city corporation has adopted some effective steps for welfare of the freedom fighters.
In line of the steps, he said they would be exempted from paying the holding tax and the district stadium would be named as Muktijoddha Stadium.
Besides, the city's roads would be named after the names of the freedom fighters, he added.
Mayor Liton urged upon all irrespective of party and opinion to work collectively for development of the city corporation and said there is no alternative to a concerted effort to take the metropolis forward.
Former Mayors Mizanur Rahman Minu, Durul Huda and Rejaun Nabi Dudu, President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abu Bakker Ali, political leaders Advocate Mozibul Haque Baku, Rafique Uddin and freedom fighters Nur Hamim Rizvi, Mahtab Uddin, Nazrul Islam Khoka, Rakibud Dowla, Mominul Haque Panna, Bulbul Rani Ghosh, Nazim Uddin and Sharif Uddin also took part in the meeting.
