DUJ denounces ban on journos' entry into BB
FE REPORT | Sunday, 28 April 2024
A rights body for media professionals has expressed concern over journalists' restricted access to the country's central bank, the Bank Bangladesh, for gathering information.
The impediment to financial journalists while discharging their professional duties is a threat to independent journalism, the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) leaders said on Saturday.
DUJ president Sohel Haider Chowdhury and general secretary Akhtar Hossain strongly condemned and protested the central bank's move, reads a statement.
According to the DUJ, journalists have been gathering information from the Bangladesh Bank for 53 long years, but they never faced any bar from getting access to the facility.
"A sudden ban on the journalists' access will increase the probability of publishing misinformation on the banking sector, which is not desirable for any side."
