DUJA holds training on investigative journalism

The Dhaka University Journalists' Association (DUJA) organised a training programme on investigative journalism for university-based reporters and distributed its Quarterly Reporters' Awards in recognition of outstanding reporting.
The programme was held on Saturday at the Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom of the University of Dhaka. The training session was conducted by Md Badruddoza Babu, head of the Investigative Journalism Help Desk at the Media Resources Development Initiative (MRDI).
During the session, the trainer shared practical knowledge and techniques of investigative journalism, drawing on real-life experiences to help journalists better understand investigative reporting and its challenges.
Following the training, DUJA awarded nine university correspondents for their best reports published during two separate periods-11 February to 10 May 2025 and 11 May to 10 August 2025.
The awardees were selected through a critical evaluation of reports submitted by 44 DUJA members. The guests formally handed over the awards, and the winners received cash prizes.
For the period 11 May to 10 August 2025, Arman Hossain, university correspondent of The Financial Express, secured first place; Tahmidul Alam Jaif of The Business Standard came second; Arfatul Islam Naim of bdnews24.com obtained third place; Manzur Hossain Mahi of Kaler Kantho grabbed fourth position while Tahmid Sakib of Prothom Alo was placed fifth.
In the earlier period from 11 February to 10 May 2025, Rafuzzaman Labib, university correspondent of Amar Desh, won first place.
Manzur Hossain Mahi of Kaler Kantho secured second place, while Mahir Kaiyum of Daily Sun and Arfatul Islam Naim of bdnews24.com were placed third and fourth respectively.
The award-giving ceremony was presided over by DUJA President Mahiuddin Mujahid Mahi, with General Secretary Mahdi Hasan conducting the proceedings. Former DUJA president and Prothom Alo staff reporter Riyadul Karim, and former DUJA president and bdnews24.com staff reporter Masum Billah, attended the event as guests.
