Durga Puja ends Friday, immersion Saturday

Friday, 3 October 2014

Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of Bengali Hindus, will end tonight (Friday) as the Mohanabami and the Vijayadashami are being held on same day today. However, the immersion of Duga idols will be held on Saturday, on the 10th day, when Durga, the mother, returns to her husband, Shiva. Bangladesh Puja Utjapan Parishad president Kajol Devnath said the worship ended because both Mohanabami and Bijayadashami have fallen on the same day according to the ‘Tithi’. In most of the cases, Durga idols in the city are immersed in Buriganga River. A few deities are immersed in Balu, Turag, Dhaleswari and other rivers and canals in and outskirts of the city, according to a news agency.
