DUTA demands release of 4 captive DU teachers

Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) Monday demanded release of four captive DU teachers including its president Sadrul Amin and general secretary Md Anwar Hossain before the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr and Durga Puja.
DUTA acting president Tajmeri Selima Akhter Islam and acting general secretary Mamun Ahmed, in a written statement, asked the government to set their four colleagues free immediately.
"We hope that the government will take necessary steps to withdraw all the cases, filed in the DU incident, and release the jailed teachers before the upcoming Eid and Puja in the greater interest of conducting the academic activities of DU fairly after its resumption on October 28", the statement said quoting DUTA acting president and secretary.
The joint forces arrested DUTA General Secretary Md Anwar Hossain, and Dean of Social Sciences Faculty Harun-or-Rashid on August 23 on charges of provoking the DU student violence from August 20 to 22.
Later, DUTA President Sadrul Amin, and Chairman of Applied Physics Department Nimchandra Bhowmik were sent to jail after they surrendered before the courts respectively on September 16 and 18 in the wake of warrants of arrest against theme on the allegation of the same charges.
