DUTA demands teachers' release before admission tests

The Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) has demanded release of four DU teachers before the commencement of the admission tests for first year students on November 30.
A delegation led by DUTA Acting President Prof. Dr Tajmeri S Islam met Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr SMA Faiz at his office Tuesday and placed their demand, reports UNB.
Another delegation of Blue Panel teachers led by its Convener Prof. Mohammad Samad also met the VC and put forward the same demand.
Acting Dean of Social Sciences Faculty Prof. Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique who was with both the delegations said three of the four detained teachers were the elected Deans.
"Admission tests will start on November 30. We request the government to release the teachers before the examinations start so that they can take charge of the admission tests as the unit chiefs," Prof. Arefin told the news agency.
Dean of Social Sciences Faculty Prof. Dr Harun-or-Rashid, Dean of Biological Sciences Faculty Prof. Dr Anwar Hossain, Dean of Arts Faculty Prof. Dr Sadrul Amin and former provost of Jagannath Hall Neem Chandra Bhoumic were arrested following the August 20-22 student unrest on the DU campus.
