Dutch minister cancels visit to Bangladesh

Dutch Minister for Development Cooperation Bert Koenders has cancelled his visit to Bangladesh, scheduled for March 22-25, reports UNB.
"His presence in the Netherlands is needed because of urgent government consultations on how to deal with the global economic recession and its impact on the Dutch economy," said a faxed message of the Netherlands Embassy Friday.
It said that despite cancellation of the visit, some events of interest to the media will continue in presence of Dutch Ambassador Bea ten Tusscher.
The programmes are: March 22 - Visit to Polder 30 in Khulna; March 23 - Signing ceremony with BRAC University Institute for Educational Development (BUIED) and Panel discussion legal framework on Violence Against Women at Westin Hotel; and March 24 - Signing ceremony on server stations to ensure sustainability of the Photo Voter List with UNDP at Bangladesh Election Commission.
