Saturday, 24 May 2014

FE Report
The visiting Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lilianne Ploumen will inaugurate the Textile Technology Business Centre (TTBC) on Monday.
The TTBC, the first of its kind in Bangladesh, aims to assist the textile industry in adopting resource efficiency measures including waste water and ground water management systems, said an International Finance corporation (IFC) official.
The function will be held at the Netherlands Embassy in the city where textile stakeholders including BGMEA President Atiqul Islam would be present.
The TTBC was set up on the BGMEA (Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association) premises with the support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the IFC and is part of the Partnership for Cleaner Textiles (PaCT) programme.
IFC initiated the PaCT worth $10 million in 2012 paving the way to reduce water usage and pollution in Bangladesh's textile sector.
TTBC will collect and distribute information on Cleaner Production, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). The Centre will also capture the knowledge developed by the Programme for broader public dissemination.
TTBC also maintains Texhive.com. Texhive is Bangladesh's first online marketplace to facilitate business transactions between buyers and sellers of textile machinery, ETP, chemical, environmental service providers, consulting companies and individual experts.
TTBC will share information on best available techniques and innovative technology with the industry and service providers and will assess the feasibility of using them locally.
TTBC will build and maintain a database of validated Cleaner Production options. It will make the content of the database available for Cleaner Production teams in factories and local service providers, through communication tools such as workshops, training courses, websites, brochures, videos, etc.,
TTBC will also act as a facilitator for suppliers of new technology who wish to demonstrate their products or services in the textile industry.
