Duty on standby power generators

IT is the irony of our fate that the present government did not realise that the import of electric genset has been increasing and relieving government of the problems of the present power crisis to some extent and helping to keep the mills, factories, hospitals and many other institutions in operation at the time of load shedding. As a result, all the past governments have kept its import in the 'duty-free category'. It is, therefore, the expectation of all the citizens that present government maintains the earlier provision, by waving its 5.0% duty/tax, imposed in the current budget, on import of standby electric gensets with immediate effect.
