Duty, quota-free access to mkt of rich nations needed: Aziz

Finance Adviser Mirza AB Azizul Islam said Wednesday the country needs continuous support like duty and quota free access to the markets of the developed countries in order to sustain the development activities and help achieve the millennium devel opment goals.
"We hope that the international community would fulfill their commitments pledged for assisting the development activities," he added.
He was addressing the launching ceremony of Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey, Bangladesh 2006, as chief guest.
The function, held at a city hotel, was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) and UNICEF.
UNICEF representative in Bangladesh, Louis-Georges Arsenault, was present as special guest while Planning Division Secretary Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury presided.
BBS director AYM Ekrarnul Hoque spoke at the inaugural session.
The finance adviser said some areas like literacy rate and infant mortality rate has improved considerably.
UNICEF survey shows about four in 10 infants aged 0-5 months are exclusively breastfed; 8 out of 10 households consume iodised salt; about 8 in 10 primary school age children attend school; and about 9 in 10 children aged 12-23 months are protected against measles through immunisation.
