Around nine per cent of women are involved in the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country, SME Foundation Chairperson Aftab ul Islam said Sunday.
He said, "Small and Medium Enterprises are the backbone of the economy as around 90 per cent of the big industries of the country were small and medium enterprises in their early stage."
"So the participation of women should be 50:50 to boost the economy of the country," Aftab said this while meeting a six member delegation of newly-formed Dhaka Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DWCCI) at the SME Foundation conference room.
"SME Foundation will help the women entrepreneurs so that they could get banks loans," he said adding that the loan recovery rate among the female entrepreneurs is 98 per cent which shows their sincerity.
He said the newly-floated chamber should also focus on research activities to encourage new and fresh ideas of the women investors.
The chamber leaders sought SME Foundation's help for taking part in both local and foreign fairs, building small industries and availing bank loans.
Aftab also assured the DWCCI leaders of all sorts of SME Foundation assistance for the betterment of the women investors.
SME Foundation managing director Syed Rezwanul Kabir and DWCCI president Naaz Farhana Ahmed spoke, among others, in the meeting.
