FE REPORT | Sunday, 8 November 2020

Marking its sixth anniversary, the e-commerce association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) will honour individuals and organisations for their vital roles played during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The trade body is scheduled to distribute the award titled 'e-commerce movers award' at a ceremony to be held at the city's Purbachal Club today (Sunday), a statement said.
It said the e-CAB is also set to launch a new initiative - 'e-genius', a digital platform to help the students continue their co-curricular activities while staying at home amid the virus outbreak.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Information Communication and Technology (ICT), is scheduled to attend the award distribution and the launching ceremony of the new initiative as the chief guest.
The country's e-commerce has witnessed a surge during the pandemic, especially during the lockdown period in April-May this year.
The trade body launched innovative programmes like 'digital haat' for trading sacrificial animal ahead of Eid-ul-Azha this year.
The digital commerce in Bangladesh has been witnessing good growth in the recent years.
According to the Bangladesh Competition Commission (CCB), the size of e-commerce in Bangladesh climbed to Tk 166.16 billion until August this year, which is nearly 30 times higher than it was in 2016.
By the year 2023, the market size of this sector is expected to reach US$ 3.0 billion.
