Online shopping in Bangladesh is a new idea and since the introduction of e-commerce by Bangladesh government, e-shopping has added a new dimension in Bangladesh and is becoming increasingly popular in the country. It has also unfolded many business opportunities countrywide. Recently a survey has shown that the online buying and selling activities are growing rapidly and more and more people are being attracted to online shopping. On the other hand, use of mobile internet is already popular and the introduction of 3G mobile internet boosted the online industry significantly. From car to home to makeup accessories, everything is being sold online. The thinking pattern of people has also started taking a new shape.
A survey of 2013 revealed that in Google search, the 4th place is occupied by Bikroy.com which is known as an online buying-selling web portal. Cellbazar.com had started its journey in 2011. The total number of such online web portals is approximately 25. Furthermore, the web portals are being used for commercial advertisements as well. to web portals like Bikroy.com and Cellbazar, advertisements can be posted very easily. The ad is posted and if the buyer is interested, s/he contacts the seller on the given contact number or e-mail address. Each product is sold by negotiation between the two parties. There are some web portals where one can make payment through his/her online card.
The interesting fact is, there is no cost involved for posting these advertisements. Only a photograph of the buyer/seller, selling price and contact number are posted to the portals. In view of mounting traffic jams, the online shopping has made life easier. The biggest advantage of e-shopping is people do not have to visit the store by themselves and can still buy the product according to their choice. Miscellaneous advantages such as free home delivery, discounts are also being offered to attract potential customers.
