Early preparedness on disaster management underscored

RANGPUR, July 28 (BSS): Effective community-based early preparedness with efficient emergency response management system could reduce loss of lives and property during the natural disasters, speakers at an orientation workshop said on Monday.
Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and 'Pollishree', an NGO, jointly organised the workshop on 'Enhancing Inclusive Disaster Resilience in Bangladesh' at the hall room of Rangpur Technical School in the city. The Oxfam GB extended financial assistances in arranging the orientation workshop to institutionalize the Community-based Disaster Management Preparedness Model involving the local population at the ward levels in the city. With City Councilor Jahangir Alam Tota (Ward No-30) in the chair, Deputy Managing Director of Rangpur Group (RG) Ashraful Al-Amin attended the orientation workshop as the chief guest.
Social workers Mohammad Abdul Jalil and Malek Niaz Arzoo addressed the occasion as special guests while Advocacy and Communication Officer of "Pollishree' Rezaul Karim Reza moderated the workshop.
Project Officer of 'Pollishree' Shahanaz Parveen elaborately narrated the goals and objectives of the workshop participated by leaders of the community-based organisations, public representatives, teachers, students, freedom fighters, Imams and local elites.
Taking part in the open discussion, the speakers narrated about the natural disasters like earthquake, statistics with loss of human lives and properties and suggested way-outs for reducing disaster risks in the disaster-prone areas.
