Early-variety potato cultivation in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Dec 3: Cultivation of early-variety potato is going on in full swing in Nilphamari district. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said potato cultivation in this year has been targeted in 16,740 hectares of land and production target is 2,95,628 tonnes. Sources said early variety potato named Granula is being cultivated all over the district.
Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) invented the seed of this variety of potato, which is capable of producing 25 to 30 tonnes of potato per hectare and this variety of potato can be harvested within 70 days of its plantation. Plantation of early-variety potato started from the middle of October and plantation is still going on all over the district.
