Easing Ramadan tailbacks

Sunday, 10 April 2022

Dhaka city's traffic system collapses every year during the holy month of Ramadan. And this year is not an exception. People now have to go through unbearable sufferings while going to work and other destinations. The commuting often takes the entire day and destroys all our plans. Due to the unbearable traffic congestion, most of the important city roads often remain blocked with hundreds of vehicles stuck for hours every day. It takes at least two hours to travel to any place within the city nowadays. Sometimes, it is more than that. Amid scorching heat, traffic congestion is seen to become intolerable to the fasting people.
Considering the current traffic situation, we must think of some possible ways out and put those in practice as early as possible. Adopting separate office hours for government, semi-government and private bodies can be a good option to ease peak hour rush. A large number of people, and students could switch to online mode again for a month. The students are quite familiar with virtual classes and many of us have experience of working from home. The authorities concerned may, therefore, consider these two solutions to minimise people's sufferings caused by traffic congestions during Ramadan.
