East West University Investment and Finance Club launches FINXCEL

Sumaya, an ambitious undergraduate student in the BBA programme of East West University (EWU), always used to score well in her academic studies. However as the course work diverged in senior years, she realised that her lack of proficiency in Microsoft Excel was hampering her performance in various academic tasks. She has discovered that numerous coursework and projects require Excel spreadsheet management, financial modeling, and data analysis. Sumaya struggles to create high-quality work despite her commitment and efforts, which has a negative impact on her grades. Another fresh graduate of EWU, Akash, is eager to secure a job in the corporate world. As he begins his job search, he realises that proficiency in Microsoft Excel is a crucial skill required by many employers in various industries. However, Akash has limited knowledge and experience with Excel, which becomes a significant obstacle in his job applications.
It is not uncommon to come across scenarios like this, wherein individuals, such as undergraduate students in their academic pursuits or fresh graduates in their job searches, face challenges due to insufficient knowledge in essential areas such as Microsoft Excel.
"For your enhancement in academic and professional life"-with this concept, East West University Investment and Finance Club is arranging "FINXCEL - An Excel-based Training and Competition" presented by Pathao. The event will continue for 10 days. It will commence on July 27, 2023 and will continue until August 05, 2023. Moreover, three workshops and a total of three rounds will be organised with each round of competition being based on the previous workshop.
Over 700 participants have completed their registration process and are ready for the event. One of the organising club executives, Sakib Rahman, said, "Even though this event is exclusively designed for East-West University students, the event has garnered a remarkable response from the participants nationwide. The underlying motive behind its launch justifies the students' enthusiasm, and we remain optimistic that this event will greatly benefit and empower all participants."
This Excel-based workshop and competition has been designed for the undergraduate students of East West University where the main objective is to facilitate them with expert guidance and create an opportunity to enrich their Excel skills needed for their practical and professional life.
The first workshop will focus on "Terminology & Key Functions in MS Excel". The second workshop will be designed with "Basic to Intermediate in MS Excel". Finally, the last workshop will be hosted on "Intermediate to Advance in MS Excel". After completing each workshop, participants will have to go through competition rounds based on the topics taught in the previous workshops. After successfully completing round 1 and round 2, participants will reach the third workshop and will be eligible to compete in the final round. The workshops will feature trainers from renowned multinational companies such as Unilever Bangladesh Limited and ACI Limited, electrical engineering companies such as TechnoEdge, and online educational platforms such as Shikho. In addition, judges from multinational companies including Microsoft, Nestle, Standard Chartered Bank, Marico, HSBC, and BAT will evaluate the competitive rounds.
The participants will be entertained with some lucrative prizes for being a part of this event. The total prize pool would be worth Tk 25,000 and this money will be distributed among the top 15 participants. The champion will be awarded Tk 5,000; first runner-up and second runner-up will receive Tk 4,000 and Tk 3,000; fourth and fifth positions will get Tk 1,500 each; and lastly sixth to 15th positions will be awarded Tk 1,000 each. Moreover, other attractive rewards such as certification, probationary internship at Pathao, Lead Academy's course scholarship, Bohubrihi's course scholarship, gift hampers from TechBurg, vouchers from Pathao and Chillox, and souvenirs such as t-shirts, stationery items will also be rewarded to the participants.
