Eastland Ins declares 10pc cash, 21pc stock dividends

Eastland Insurance Company Limited (EICL) declared 10 per cent cash and 21 per cent stock dividends for its shareholders for the year that ended on December 31, 2006.
The dividends were approved at the 20th annual general meeting (AGM) of the company at the BRAC Centre INN at Mohakhali in the city Wednesday.
EICL Chairman Mahbubur Rahman presided over the meeting.
A large number of shareholders attended the AGM and took part in the deliberations on annual report, statement of accounts and performance of the company.
The EICL chairman presented the report of the directors, audited accounts of the company for the year 2006 with auditor's report thereon.
The chairman informed the AGM that the company earned gross premium income of Tk 260.01 million during the year through its 25 branches, which was 29.98 per cent higher than that of the previous year.
During the year, the EICL settled 176 claims for a total amount of TK 73.97 million on account of fire, marine, motor and miscellaneous insurance.
The company's total assets stood at Tk 603.88 million during the year.
Contribution of the EICL to the public exchequer during the year 2006 was Tk 37.30 million as income tax, value added tax (VAT) and stamp duty.
Mahbubur Rahman in his report expressed satisfaction over the company's sound performance during the year.
He advised the management to endeavour tirelessly to maintain the trend of growth.
