EBL introduces Visa Platinum Credit Card

Eastern Bank Limited (EBL) has introduced 'Visa Platinum Credit Card'- one of the premium credit cards well suited for international travelers and offered by multinational card processing giant 'Visa', in the Bangladeshi market.
This Visa Platinum card would offer an array of privileges for Bangladeshi travelers while going abroad by providing them a highly convenient mode for overseas transaction- EBL authority said on the eve of launching the card in the city Tuesday.
"We have introduced a series of exclusive credit and debit card facilities in Bangladesh over the last few years", Managing Director of EBL Ali Reza Iftekhar said while formally unveiling the card.
"This Visa Platinum Credit Card is the latest in this range which would greatly facilitate the business transaction and payment for Bangladeshi travelers", he added.
According to industry insiders, there are approximately 1.5 million cardholders in the Bangladeshi market- significant portions of which are frequent travelers.
Observers said that with the introduction of the Visa Platinum card, EBL is trying to tap into this largely unexplored market.
"We are aiming to get a subscriber base of around 5000 for this particular card by the year end", said EBL Deputy Manaing Director Mamoon Mahmood Shah.
One of the many exclusive features offered by Visa Platinum card is access to over 600 airport lounges in over 100 countries globally. At the same time, it also offer guaranteed hotel discounts in over 3500 hotels, exclusive access to over 200 international golf courses as well as global concierge service.
All purchase on the Visa Platinum card will be charged at 2.17 per cent per month and the cardholders can transfer their other bank credit card outstanding at monthly interest rate of 1.67 per cent- the EBL authority said.
In addition, Platinum Cardholders shall get a travel insurance of Tk. one million, which, according to the EBL officials, is highest for any card insurance in Bangladesh.
Other than 24-hour card service in Bangladesh, EBL Visa Platinum cardholders shall enjoy a dedicated Global Concierge Service from anywhere in the world- said EBL Head of Cards Nazeem A Choudhury.
"Other than emergency card replacement, cash advance services and medical services, the card holder can get any local or international information from this concierge service", he added.
