EC announces roadmap tomorrow

Saturday, 14 July 2007

The Election Commission is poised to announce the much-expected roadmap Sunday, detailing timetables for its future steps to hold the stalled parliamentary polls next year, reports UNB.
Chief Election Commissio-ner Dr Shamsul Huda, who will spell out the roadmap through media, will not announce the date for polls but give enough indications about it.
"We're very transparent about all of our activities…You'll get enough indications about possible time for the election," Election Commissioner Sakhawat Hossain told the news agency this Friday evening.
In reply to a query, he said the roadmap would envisage the reconstituted EC's activities in the past six months as well as its future steps towards holding the polls.
He said the Commission would give timetables for completing the electoral roll, registration of political parties and dialogues with political parties on electoral reforms.
Sakhawat said the Commission would not specifically say the date and time of the election but nothing would remain undisclosed apart from that.
Asked if the Commission would request the government to lift the ban on indoor politics, he said they might not make such request but set the time period for dialogues with parties.
Political parties and the country's development partners are also anxiously waiting to see the Commission's roadmap to map out their own future steps.
