EC asks AL to amend draft constitution

Monday, 20 October 2008

The Election Commission has sent a letter to Awami League asking the party to amend its draft constitution by eliminating the provision to keep associated organisations, an EC official said Sunday, reports bdnews24.com.
Deputy Secretary to the EC Secretariat (law) AKM Solimullah told bdnews24.com that the letter was sent after the scrutiny committee made the recommendations.
An AL delegation, led by office secretary Abdul Mannan Khan, is expected to visit the EC Secretariat in the afternoon to enquire about the matter.
The party applied for registration on Oct 15 along with a draft of its amended constitution, in line with the new electoral laws.
As many as 38 parties had applied for registration with the EC up to Sunday noon.
