EC awards certificates to 7 parties

The Election Commission (EC) has awarded registration certificates to seven political parties including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jatiyo Party (Ershad) until Tuesday, reports UNB.
Registration of political parties was introduced for the first time to take part in the national election.
“Our party was never against the registration with EC,” BNP joint secretary general Nazrul Islam Khan told reporters after receiving the registration certificate Tuesday.
JP secretary general Ruhul Amin Howlader said registration of political parties would play an important part in ensuring free, fair and acceptable elections.
The other parties awarded with certificates are Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Bikalpodhara Bangladesh, Workers’ Party of Bangladesh, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Inu).
EC sources said certificates of six other parties are ready for delivery. The parties are Awami League, Bangladesh Sammyobadi Dal (ML), Krishok-Sromik Janata League, Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP), Jatiyo Party (JP) and Gonotontri Party.
