FE REPORT
The Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) Secretariat has issued a comprehensive circular defining the roles and responsibilities of its field-level officers to strengthen election management and voter services across the country.
Issued on Sunday, the directive specifies duties for additional regional election officers, additional district election officers, election officers, and assistant upazila/thana election officers.
According to the circular, additional regional election officers (administration and election wings) will oversee upazila offices, conduct inspections, handle investigations, budget matters, voter list preparation and updating, and serve as returning officers or appellate authorities as assigned. They will also play key roles in National ID card services and training programmes.
Additional district election officers will focus on administrative and financial oversight, voter list management, election coordination, and National ID distribution, while assisting senior officers in smooth polls management.
Election officers and assistant upazila/thana election officers have been assigned supportive roles in administration, voter education, election logistics, and National ID services.
The move aims to enhance operational efficiency, ensure better coordination, and maintain transparency in electoral activities ahead of future national and local elections.
The circular also includes provisions for leave arrangements and performance of additional duties as directed by the Commission.
The document has been circulated to all relevant officials for immediate implementation.
An EC official told the FE that often confusions arise regarding responsibilities of the officers.
It will help avoid such confusions and overlapping so that smooth operations of the public service will be ensured, he said.
