EC decision on two AL candidates Sunday
Thursday, 27 March 2014
The Election Commission (EC) will give its decision on Sunday on the suspension of the January 5 election results in two Jessore constituencies won by Awami League (AL) candidates Sheikh Afil Uddin and Monirul Islam. The results in Jessore-1 and Jessore-2 seats were suspended for alleged violation of code of conduct by the two candidates, allegations they denied. In the January 5 parliamentary election Afil Uddin won the Jessore-1 seat uncontested while Monirul was elected from Jessore-2 constituency. They could not take oath as the results were not officially announced because of the dispute. The EC heard arguments from the candidates on Thursday. The commission will take final decision on Sunday, said election commissioner Shah Nawaz, according to a news agency.
