Wednesday, 20 June 2007

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to open voter registration desks at the embassies for expatriate Bangladeshis to enlist them as voters.
Election Commissioner Muhammad Sahul Hossain disclosed this Tuesday saying that Bangladeshis would register and get listed in the digital voter record after other regular procedures, bdnews24.com.
They will cast their votes being physically present or through postal ballots, he said.
Hossain said a government officer would be appointed assistant registration officer to each registration desk at the Bangladesh missions.
The expatriates will also get national identity (ID) cards after voter ID registration is done at the desks.
"We will finalise the matter after a revision of 'Represen-tation of People Order, 1972' after discussions with the home and the foreign ministries."
