EC gets Tk 5.48b allocation
FE Report | Tuesday, 10 June 2008
The government has kept aside Tk 5.48 billion in the new fiscal for Election Commission (EC) that is scheduled to hold the next general election during third week of December next.
Of the amount, Tk 4.60 billion has been projected to be spent on non-development activities while the rest on development projects.
The new fiscal allocation is higher by Tk 340 million from the revised allocation of Tk 5.14 billion in the outgoing fiscal.
Around Tk 4.11 billion of the revised allocation was spent by the election commission on non-development works including preparation of voters' identity cards, said a senior finance ministry official.
The official said the new allocation is sufficient for holding the election and local level polls.
The allocation was made as per the demand made by the Election Commission that spent less than Tk 2.0 billion to conduct the last general election during 2001-2002, he said.
