EC monitors proper implementation of election codes

Sunday, 19 October 2008

The Election Commission (EC) is firmly committed to offer a free, fair and credible general election, free from the influence of black money and muscle power, reports BSS.
With this in view, the EC has already started monitoring proper implementation of the election codes of conduct and also those violating these rules.
As per the amended codes of conduct, none can make any commitment for tolls or donation to mosques, temples, churches, clubs, libraries or other organizations to attract voters or for any development purpose in respective constituencies.
The amended codes of conduct have totally banned use of coloured posters and writings on walls as part of election campaign. The posters should be black and white and within the sizes recommended by the EC.
The posters may contain only the party symbols, but no photo of any national leader or the party chief. Even no photo depicting someone leading a rally or saying prayer can be used in the poster, which should be within 23-inch by 18- inch size.
