EC moves to prevent overlap of symbols in nat\\\'l, local body polls
Sunday, 27 July 2014
The Election Commission (EC) has decided to prepare separate lists of election symbols for the parliamentary and local government body polls. According to the commission’s decision, the number of election symbols for the national election will come down to 65 from the existing 140. Of the 65 symbols, 42 are currently assigned to 42 registered political parties. Independent candidates in the general election will have to use polls symbols from the remaining 23. The commission took the decision in principle to prepare separate lists for various elections and drop unnecessary polls symbols, with a view to preventing any overlap of symbols used in the national elections and those used in local government polls, Election Commissioner Shah Nawaz said on Saturday, according to UNB.
