EC opts for EVM in next local govt polls

Thursday, 12 June 2014

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to use the electronic voting machines in the local government elections.
The commission Wednesday ordered its IT wing to keep some 1230 EVM ready for use in next elections of local government bodies.
The meeting asked the IT wing to inform the commission how many machines are working within a week, an EC official told UNB preferring anonymity.
The commission headed by Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad suspended the use of the EVM ahead of the 10th parliamentary election following protests from opposition BNP.
The immediate past Huda commission introduced EVM in a ward of Chittagong City Corporation elections in 2010 as a pilot project with technical support of ICT Institute of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
