EC sees no possibility of DCC polls

The Election Commission (EC) does not see any possibility of holding Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) elections, which have been caught in a legal tangle for last seven years, within the tenure of this government. Commission’s doubt stemmed from nonchalant approach of the government towards several reminders given to it for delimitation of corporation’s wards. In its budget for the current fiscal, the EC did not earmark any fund for the DCC elections. “Earlier I had expressed my doubt over elections taking place this year. But now it appears unlikely that the civic body polls can be held within the tenure of this government,” an election commissioner confided to bdnews24.com on condition of anonymity.
