EC shifts stance on army deployment

FE Report | Friday, 24 April 2015

The Election Commission (EC) has shifted from its earlier decision regarding deployment of the army during the upcoming city corporation polls.
In its latest decision, EC has decided to keep the army as a striking force, to be staying at the cantonment, a senior EC official told the FE on Thursday.
EC in a letter to Armed Forces Division (AFD) on Wednesday requested to keep the army as striking force on the elections day on April 28.
"The army will stay inside the cantonment, and will come outside upon request from the returning officer (RO)," the EC official said quoting the letter.
Earlier, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) sent a letter to AFD on April 21, seeking three battalions of army to stay on April 26-29 during the three city corporation elections.
