The Election Commission (EC) has so far found 22 political parties eligible for registration with the EC out of a long list of 107 who had applied for the registration, reports UNB.
The Commission has already issued registration certificates to a number of parties and kept certificates ready for delivering to the rest before the process closes in a couple of days.
The Commission is proceeding to complete the process of party registration within November 10 by stamping its seal of quality on the qualifying parties to contest the ninth parliamentary elections.
"We'll stop registering the political parties by November 10, although the process will actually not end," EC joint secretary and technical committee head NI Khan told journalists at his office Saturday afternoon.
He said the technical committee does not want to further continue with the inquiry at the field levels for scrutinizing the political parties' information. "We're thinking about not continuing the scrutiny in the field level anymore."
NI Khan said that the Commission had issued 15 registration certificates for delivery to date. "Fourteen parties have already received certificates and the rest can receive them anytime," he said.
He said the committee has finalised the registration process for 7 more political parties after scrutinizing their documents and papers submitted to the Commission. "Of them, the Commission Saturday sent two parties for public notification to ascertain if there are any objections about them."
The technical committee head said they have found objection about Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP-Matin) regarding party symbol, which needs hearing for taking decision for registration.
Asked about the registration for neophyte Islamic Democratic Party (IDP), he said this party would not get registration before the ninth parliamentary polls.
Registration certificates have been delivered to Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Jatiya Party (JP), Bangladesh Samyabadi Dal (M-L), Krishak-Sramik Janata League, Awami League, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Communist Party of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Awami Party, Ganotantri Party, Workers Party of Bangladesh, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, Jatiya Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
Certificate is ready for another faction of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD).
The seven parties waiting to obtain certificates are Tarikat Federation, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD), Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Zaker Party, Islami Oikya Jote, Bangladesh NAP, and Bangladesh Jatiya Party.
