EC to install webcams in CCC polling centres

Tuesday, 3 January 2012

The Election Commission (EC) Monday has decided to install webcams in all the polling centres of Comilla City Corporation (CCC) for the first time in the country's history aiming at ensuring a free, fair and flawless election, reports BSS.
According to EC sources, some 130 technical experts have been appointed so far to complete the task and the EC will provide them training. The commission has already sent directives to all concerned to this end.
The sources said the decision of setting up the sophisticated webcam has been taken to identify those who will try to hinder the electoral process and punish them reviewing their activities through the webcam.
On maintaining law and order, sources said three-tire security measures have been taken for holding the CCC polls peacefully, scheduled to be held on January 5. Apart from deployment of the members of law enforcement agencies at all the polling centres, the EC has decided to deploy five more action force members in each centre, while eight RAB members will remain on patrol duty outside each of the polling stations.
The EC has decided to deploy one observer in each ward who will monitor the poll. Striking mobile force and reserve force comprising RAB and police would also be deployed during the election.
Election Commissioner Brig. Gen. (Rtd) M Shakhawat Hossain told the news agency that the election commission has taken all necessary measurers to hold the upcoming CCC polls in a free, fair and acceptable manner. However, the EC has sent warning message to officials concerned and members of the law enforcement agencies that it would take stern actions against those found responsible for their negligence in performing election duties.
Shakhawat said that directives had been given to the concerned officer to arrest candidate and even cancelling his or her nomination papers if they are found guilty of violating election code of conducts, rules and regulations.
The newly announced Comilla City Corporation was constituted with 27 wards. The polling would take place at 421 booths in 65 centres.
In an administrative move, the government has made Comilla City Corporation (CCC) on July 10, 2011 through a ministry gazette abolishing the then Comilla Municipality.
