EC to remove 10 Indians from voter list
Monday, 25 April 2011
The Election Commi-ssion (EC) will remove the names of 10 people of a village in Moulavibazar from the voter list, as the police claim they are Indian nationals, reports bd-news24.com.
The EC took the decision Saturday following an investigation conducted jointly by the EC and police, EC Secretary Mihir Sarwar Morshed told the news agency.
"Measures will also be taken against those responsible for listing the Indian nationals."
The 10 Indians have been identified as Chaothai Singh, Nanao Devi, Romi Singh, Babita Devi, Manan Sharma, Benu Singh, Ulen Singh, 'Shailja', Jaikaya Singh and Dhoni Singh.
The 10 Indian nationals got themselves listed in the voter list of Chhoto Dhamai village under East Juri Union Council-2 of Juri Upazila of the district.
One Alhaj Adaruddin of Bara Dhamai union council on October 12 last year expressed suspicion before the police and district election officer that they were members of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), a separatist group from India's north-eastern state of Assam.
After investigation, the Special Branch of police informed the Moulavibazar district magistrate that 'the proof of listing the Indian citizens as fake voters was found in the investigation'.
