EC to take action against election rules violators

Election Commission (EC) will take action against the violators of election rules by conducting advance campaign ahead of local government body elections in the name of exchanging Eid greetings.
"Conducting election campaign before announcement of the schedule is a violation of election rules and the EC will take actions against the persons involved in it," Election Commissioner Shakhawat Hossain told BSS Saturday.
When his attention was drawn to pasting posters on walls, distribution of leaflets and different gift items among voters and erecting colourful gates by possible candidates in the coming local government elections, Mr Shakhawat said instructions had already given to the field-level officers to make lists of such people.
"The amount being spent now would be included with the election expenditures and naturally, their amount will become reduced then," the election commissioner said.
The nomination papers would be cancelled if any coloured posters are found after the announcement of the schedule, he warned .
