EC to take steps, if complaint lodged
Tuesday, 21 April 2015
Election Commission (EC) Secretary Sirazul Islam said on Monday the commission will take steps if it receives any complaint over the obstruction created to Khaleda Zia's electioneering for her party-backed candidates in the city polls, reports UNB.
"If any complaint is lodged, we'll surely consider it. How will we take steps if there is no complaint?" he said.
The EC secretary said this replying to a query whether the commission would take any action against the incidents of obstructions faced by Khaleda Zia during her campaign in favour of her party-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Tabith Awal on Sunday.
He was briefing reporters about the by-election schedule for Magura-1 constituency at the EC media centre in the afternoon.
Asked about the army deployment in the three city corporations in Dhaka and Chittagong during their elections, the EC Secretary said the decision in this regard is yet to be taken. "A process is underway."
Sirazul Islam claimed that 12 magistrate-led mobile courts are regularly working in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and dealing with the cases of the violation of the election code of conduct.
About the election observers, EC Director (PR) SM Asaduzzaman said many diplomatic missions stationed in Dhaka have already showed their interest to observe the city corporation elections slated for April 28.
