The Election Commission (EC) plans to use the electronic voting machine from next national elections, an Election Commissioner said Sunday, reports UNB.
Talking to reporters at the EC secretariat Commissioner M Sohul Hussain said they would soon discuss the issue with political parties.
"If electronic voting machine is used there is no need of ballot box and ballot paper in the election," he said describing the advantages of the electronic voting machine.
The Election Commissioner, however, said electronic voting machine would not be used in the first phase of Union Parishad elections, scheduled to begin March 29 and continue until April 3 in the coastal regions.
He said this system might be used in some areas during the second phase of UP election slated for May across the country.
Sohul noted they found success after using of electronic voting machine as pilot project in one centre during the last Chittagong City Corporation polls.
