EC to warn Manju for violating election rules

Thursday, 20 May 2010

The Election Commission (EC) is going to issue a notice to prospective mayoral candidate Manjurul Alam Manju for violating the electoral code of conduct for the upcoming Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls, reports UNB.
Monju, who is in the line to contest the city corporation election from opposition BNP, took part in a public rally Tuesday after holding a press briefing. The EC contends that this was violation of the rules, which shun the holding of such public rallies.
The returning officer for the CCC polls has already taken the incident into cognisance and plans to warn the candidate by issuing the notice before Manju files his nomination. The last date for filing the nomination has been fixed on May 20 (Thursday), according to the election schedule.
Talking to reporters, Election Commissioner M Sakhawat Hussain said that the notice was going to be issued to the prospective mayoral candidate, as he had participated in a big procession held in the city.
He said the candidates were presently being warned by issuing of notices, but later they would be fined for violating the election rules.
